Hi all:

Using Lifelines will help with any project. If you aren't sure what
that is, there is plenty of info on the Internet about it but it is
basically where you put thread or thin yarn through a row already
worked, designating that all the rows to that point are error free.
You should document what row you put the lifeline in so you have a point of reference. If you make any error after that point, you know you are OK with the previous rows anyway.

Special Stitch KAL Day 2

After completing day 1, your cloth should resemble the below photo:

Row 7:            With color A, Knit across

Row 8:            With Color A, K4, P37, K4 
Row 9:            Color B K1, Sl 1 (PW), *K5, Sl 1 (PW) *; Repeat between *’s, ending K1.
Row 10:         Color B K1, YF, Sl 1 (PW), YB *K5, YF, Sl 1 (PW), YB*; Repeat between *'s 
                        end with K1
Row 11:         Color B P1, YB, Sl 1 (PW), YF, *P5, YB, Sl 1 (PW), YF*; Repeat between *’s, 
                        end with P1.

This ends the row pattern.  Repeat the 12 pattern rows 5 times, then repeat rows 1-8 once.  Knit 4 rows with B, bind off and weave in end.

If you are new to knitting this pattern will probably be new to you.  It has been around a long time and is a Peaches N Crème that can found in a lot of places and if you aren't familiar with Kay & Ann's website, you may want to visit.  This cloth was in their Mason Dixon Knitting Book #1.  Their site is located at http://www.masondixonknitting.com/

BallBand Dishcloth (Brick Stitch)

Materials:

2 skeins of solid color yarn OR 1 skein of variegated & 1 skein of solid color.

#6 or #7 US Knitting Needles

Cast on: 45

 Border:

With Color B,

Rows 1-4:      Knit Across

Pattern:

Row 1:            With Color A, Knit across.

Row 2:            With Color A. K4, P37, K4

                        If you haven’t added a lifeline yet, now would be the time to do it.

Row 3:            With Color B after attaching the alt color, K4,  Sl1 (PW), *K5, Sl 1 (PW) *;

                         repeat between *’s ending with K4

Special Stitch KAL

Here is the KAL I was telling everyone about.  I will post the rows for two days and then everyone is on their own to finish.

Materials:  2 skeins of yarn, 2 different colors (A color is main color and B is contrast color)
                  Needle: #6 or #7
Notes:
Sl:      Slip Stitch
(PW)  Purlwise (put right needle in front of st - as if to purl, and move this stitch to the right needle.
YF:    Yarn Forward - Place yarn in Purl position
YB:    Yarn Back:  Place yarn in knit position

Cast on: 45

Border:

With Color B,
Rows 1-4:      Knit Across

Pattern:

Row 1:            With Color A, Knit across.

Attach:

Attach new color (above).  Change to alternate color by putting color used to the back, and new color to the front of the old color).  Work the row below:
NOTE:  Tie the two colors together on the tail ends on the wrong side of work:

 Completed row should look like the photo above.  This is a photo from the wrong side.

Row 2:            With Color A. K4, P37, K4

                        If you haven’t added a lifeline yet, now would be the time to do it.

March 16 KAL Day 7 - Final and KAL Announcement

Hi guys:
The Special Announcement:  We will start a new KAL on Monday, it will only be for 2 days.  Some of the suggestions I received was to explain or demonstrate certain stitches.  We will do one of these on Monday, and will end on Tuesday giving you the chance to ask questions before we all finish the cloth on our own.  I can tell you that you will need 2 different colors, size 6 or 7 needle and there will be photos on our KAL Blog.  Rest up  :)

Well one of ours members had a concern with the border on row 10 and when I checked, she was right.....Row 10, row 26, row 42 should end "P1,K1".  Although it doesn't change the overall look, I thought you might want to have the information in case you decide to knit more of these.

The last days rows are listed below and the designer of this cloth is me, this cloth first appeared in "Peaches N Creme Dedicated Pattern Booklet".  The name of the cloth is Floral Eyelet cloth and it was done in Peaches N Creme yarn with Potpourri Ombre, (the original color, there were two) which was one of my favoriates.  It will be uploaded to our "Pattern" group.  A copy of the Peaches N Creme booklet is still in print if you are interested in purchasing.

Lesson 1 of the Knitting Club

Knitting New Ideas & Tips (K N I T  Club)

Casting On Process:

There are numerous ways to “Cast On”.  If you visit www.knittinghelp.com you can actually watch the different cast on methods.  I use the “Long Tail” cast on because it establishes a cast on that looks like you have knitted the yarn.  The only thing with this method is to make sure you have enough yarn on the “tail” portion to complete your cast on.  What I do is visualize about 12” of yarn to complete 20 cast on stitches.  If you are casting on 40 stiches you should have about 2 feet of yarn. 

To start knitting I use both strands for 2 stitches,  below shows the cast on, knitting 2 stitches with tail & working yarn and show the wrong side after the end of row 1.

Example 2; Knit first 2 stitches of cast on with tail & working yarn:

 

After knitting the first row, you can see to the left, that the tail is now close to the second stitch not the first.  This allows you to just cut off that one instead of having to weave in and out if you want to because it has become a part of the item now.  After you have completed this item you will see how it really isn’t noticeable that you used the 2 strands of yarn on the first 2 stitches.

 

Casting Off:

You should cast off in the same stitch as the row previously worked.  If you knit that row then you should cast off in knit, if you did a Knit 1, Purl 1 row, you should cast off using those stitches.  To help keep your cast off row smooth and in line with your item, try knitting 2 stitches together at the end instead of knitting both stitches.  It does make a difference.

What about the number of cast on stitches?

I went over this subject in one of my calendars but feel it would help to repeat it.

Some patterns instead of stating to cast on 37 (or another number), it will state “Cast on multiple of 7 stitches”  OR  “Cast on multiple of 7 + 3”.  This is a way of letting you know ahead of time if you want to make larger or smaller, you have that option.

Here is what you need to consider:  If you want to make a cloth then the “7” may be 35 (7x5=35) stitches + a border say of 4, so you would cast on 39 stitches.  If you wanted to make a towel then you know it will need to be wider so you can add 14 stitches and it would be 49 + border stitches.  If they don’t give you a tip of “Multiple” you can see how many stitches are between * to * and add or subtract that number to make it larger or smaller.  You have to remember NOT to count the stitches outside the * area, those are usually the ones that say Multiple of 7 + 3 and the one’s outside the * represent the 3 extra stitches.
